We are proud to announce that a major update to our PhoXi Control & firmware, version 1.16, was officially released on September 5, 2025!
Along with multiple improvements across the board, this release ushers in official support for our brand-new flagship product: the PhoXi 3D Scanner Gen3.
As of September 5th, we have officially started shipping the PhoXi 3D Scanner Gen3 to customers, and this update is your key to driving its full potential.
Firmware 1.16 is the default version for all current products:
- PhoXi 3D Scanner Gen3 (New)
- MotionCam-3D & MotionCam-3D Color
- PhoXi 3D Scanner Gen2
- Alpha 3D Scanner
Meet the PhoXi 3D Scanner Gen3
Version 1.16 is the first PhoXi Control & firmware version built to power our next-generation scanner. The Gen3 is packed with cutting-edge technology designed to deliver unprecedented performance.
Here’s what you can get now:
- Higher Resolution: A powerful 5.1 Mpx sensor delivers 60% more 3D points for incredibly detailed scans.
- Any Lighting Conditions: Thanks to new Blue Laser technology and HDR support, the Gen3 can perform flawlessly even in direct sunlight.
- Integrated RGB Camera: Capture rich, detailed scenes with up to 8 Mpx color images.
- Faster & More Robust Scanning: Exposure times are cut by up to 10x, and a 20 dB higher dynamic range ensures robust performance.
- Extended Scanning Range: Now you’re able to scan up to 6 m distance.
- Auto-Maintenance: A single-click solution, previously exclusive to MotionCam-3D Color, is now available to fine-tune your Gen3 device’s internal parameters.
- Setting Assistant: Let the assistant automatically select the best parameters for your scene or choose from new, predefined factory profiles.
Key Improvements in Firmware 1.16
- New HDR Support: A new HDR setting (Off, Medium, Strong) gives you granular control for perfect scans in challenging light.
- Expanded Resolution Options: Gain greater flexibility with resolution options ranging from 0.7MP up to 5MP, available when using PhoXi Control 1.16 or higher.
- Optimized Point Cloud Filtering: A new, highly-optimized filtering method is enabled by default on Gen3 devices to more effectively remove inaccurate 3D points.
Beyond enabling the Gen3, this firmware update brings powerful enhancements and fixes across the board.
Specifically, we are introducing “Enhanced" Texture Sources: We've added new Computed (Enhanced) and Laser (Enhanced) texture options. These apply additional processing to suppress projection stripes, resulting in cleaner textures.
Better Integration and Reliability
Clearer Hardware Specs: Devices now report their maximum supported resolution directly in PhoXi Control and the PhoXi API, simplifying configuration.

Important Information
To get the most out of this update, please keep the following in mind:
- When working with the PhoXi 3D Scanner Gen3, you must use PhoXi Control version 1.16 or higher.
- PhoXi 3D Scanner Gen3 will only be supported in Bin Picking Studio 1.11 and Locator Studio 1.4.
